A change of “Self?”
20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:20-24)
Are we being taught this?
Are we being taught this? ‘That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt… and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.’ I mean yeah we hear it in church, and maybe read it in our bibles or maybe someone brings it up during a study group but are we being taught this? But… “Do We Believe It”!?
I was asking God this one morning while reading the book of Ephesians and came upon this passage. “LORD” I said, “are we being taught this? Are we being taught what this looks like? To ‘Put off our old self,’ because of its deceitful desires that are corrupting and killing us? Are we being taught that our old self is to die with Christ?
Are we allowing God to make us new? Or are we still clutching that old dead person that we used to be, thinking that it’s ok because we’re saved and have that ticket to heaven?
Have we aloud God to make us “new in the ‘attitude’ of our minds” through His Love in us?! Or do we still think for ourselves? Staying in our own personal selfish ways? Have our minds been transformed by the Holy Spirit living in us? Have we “Put on the new self?” Taking the new life given us when we came to believe in the salvation given to us on the cross?
