Who are we? A brief history.

In 2008 a husband and wife, felt led by God to reach out to the homeless and ended up in Leverich Park in Vancouver Washington with a few hand made sandwiches, a heart for Jesus and some new friends.

In late 2011, Chris and Mary Marendish joined this small group and started sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with the “Peep’s” (our homeless friends) at the park.

In October of 2015, after many years of faithful service, the founding couple felt once again led by God, this time into a different mission field. It was out of this need that ‘Word of Freedom Ministries’ was born. Founded by Chris & Mary Marendish, Edward Koch, Jeff McGrath and Chuck Goneau this much needed ministry has continued.

So what does this ministry do?

It is the mission of Word of Freedom Ministries to reach out to all people, those with and without homes, living on the streets, in motels, or in other housing that is not their own. We do this by showing them love, hope, and freedom through the gospel of Jesus Christ, fellowship, and the meeting of their physical needs.

When and Where?

We gather together every Saturday at Leverich Park at 3 pm, and on occasion, go out to the streets. We bring much needed food and drinks, as well as personal hygiene, first-aid supplies, Bibles and other gospel reading materials. The most important part of WOFM (Word of Freedom Ministries) is that we bring the Love of God, His Word and fellowship to those who come and attend.  We believe that the feeding of the soul and mind is just as important, if not more so, than the feeding of the body.

We are also speaking out in other churches as well. We believe that the message of the gospel and the believers identity in Christ, needs to be shared across our nation. Our lead Pastor, Chris Marendish and his wife Mary are taking speaking invitations to other churches and home gatherings, that are open to the “Whole Gospel Message” and are wanting a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit and the activation of the gifting’s in their congregation as well. Please contact us for dates and more information for bookings.

Mission Statement

Word of Freedom Ministry, is an outreach ministry who’s mission it is to reach out to those without homes, living on the streets, in motels, or in other housing that is not their own. Showing them love, hope, and freedom through the gospel of Jesus Christ, through fellowship, and by meeting their physical needs with such things as food, personal hygiene products, clothing, bibles and others such items.

It is the primary mission of this ministry to obey the Word of God, as recorded in the bible, in the gospel of Matthew 28:19-20a. where Jesus tells us to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you”.  And in the book of James 1:27, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world”. We accomplish this through fellowship and ministry of the Word of God.

We believe that ‘faith that comes by hearing and hearing of the word of God’ sets a person free from the bondage of sin, self, and of this world. It is Faith in the truth of God and His word that sets us free. For ‘where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’ (2 Corinthians 3:17)
