“I just wish I could stop doing it!”
Sound familiar? Have you ever heard someone say this while you were talking to them about how God wants to free them from something? Or maybe you yourself, have uttered these words of frustration about something in your life that you just want to be free of, but for some reason you just can’t seem to shake it.
‘Why is so much of it (deliverance) geared towards the Christian?’
“I need to be delivered from…” fill in the blank, we shout!
It seems like everywhere I look in the church these days I see something about deliverance ministries, or prayers about being delivered, books on delivering us from whatever possesses us, to yet another – dare I say – blog about the subject. And this constant onslaught of deliverance talk has gotten me thinking, and you know where that leads too. Yep. A blog posting about it! You got it.
But my question about all this deliverance stuff is, ‘Why is so much of it geared towards the Christian?’ when we are the ones who have supposedly Already been delivered? I mean didn’t Jesus say in John 8:36 “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”? So if we are free, why are so many Christians crying out to be delivered? This puzzles me? Could it be that we really need to be delivered from being delivered, and in doing so, then become who God says that we are in HIS WORD!?
Maybe, just maybe, we don’t truly need deliverance but rather a Great Awakening in our hearts and souls across this great nation? What if we started to become what we say we are, hidden in Christ, a New Creation, and a child of God? Even Jesus called His disciples ‘the light of the world, and city on a hill.’ What if we filled our heads with what God says we are instead of what the world and the enemy says about us? For Jesus said in Matthew 12:34 “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” If an evil person can’t speak any good, then how can a “good person” speak evil?! This just boggles my mind.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit”
What fruit are we eating? God’s Word says that His fruit of the Spirit is… “…love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (Gal 5:22-23) If we are eating this fruit, the fruit supplied by God the Holy Spirit, won’t we grow in that fruit? Are we not truly what we eat? We have eaten of the Bread of Life and drank of the blood that cleanses us from the inside out, and still we say that we need something more. Jesus said that if we drink of the water that He shall give us, we shall never thirst again.
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. (Matthew 12:33)
Has not God made us ‘good’ by the sacrifice of the Lamb of God? Or are we to say that the blood of Jesus was only good enough to wash away our old sins and that well, we still have that sinfulness about us? Are we not to ‘put to death the deeds of the body’?
This is REVIVAL!!!! … to have the love of God within their hearts!
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Romans 8:13
I believe that what we need is not another deliverance meeting, but a Great Awakening meeting! One where everyone is taught by the Word of God who they are so that they can in turn teach others, by the Word of God who they are! This is REVIVAL!!!! And it is for the double minded if they ever desire to have the love of God within their hearts!
“For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:7-8
For the double minded man needs to have his mind washed and transformed by the blood of Jesus so that he can become what he was destined to become!
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8
That is deliverance in a nut shell! “Draw near to God!” If we are close to God the Father, how can the enemy even get close? Let’s wash our hands of the filth of the world around us, purify our hearts, for as we just read, ‘out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks’, and allow the blood of Christ to wash our minds clean.
“…how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14
And now with a clean conscience from the dead works we are now able to serve the living God with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength! Boom!!! Deliverance!!! Done!! Child of God! Holy as He is Holy, read to face whatever the world or the enemy might throw at us!
Let’s “Be” who God willed us to be! His amazing children who model His Amazing Son, Jesus, for the whole world to see, and long for! Let’s be the Light of the World that calls out into the darkness and draws forth a bountiful harvest of fruit for our Glorious Father in Heaven!!!
Let’s the power and love of Jesus to everyone we meet. And this is only possible by the trust and belief of the full power of the blood of Jesus poured out for us, to wash us and purify us of all sinfulness.
“because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy” 1 Peter 1:16
