Feasting upon God’s Word

There are at times in my life, so many thoughts and ideas floating around in my head that it can be hard to settle on just one. Focusing can be troublesome at times because I have put to many ‘Irons in the fire” so to speak.

But there is a time in my day when none of the worries and cares of the world and life seam to matter. That time is when I’m sitting alone with Father God, reading His word. At times it’s like I’m just soaking in His great love as He reads of His great love for me. A lot of the time as I read, it’s like I’m feasting upon it! Tearing into it like a lion tears into it’s meal. Feasting upon the Bread of Life as I dig deeper and deeper into the Word of Life, Jesus my Savoir and King!

I’m the type of person who learns best from doing something over and over again. Oh’ you can tell me how to do something and I’ll figure it out. But it might come with some trials and head banging. But if you can show me, and let me feel it out, to take it and look at it from more than one angle, then I will know how it works and understand it deeper.

God’s word for me is like that. I can have someone read it to me and teach upon it. And that’s a good thing. I’ve learned many great things from many a great speaker. Because they are showing us what it is that God has been showing them, teaching them, revealing to them for the sake of the church body.

But when it comes to letting the One who wrote it show you what He truly means in His own words. WOW!!!! The lights come on, and the feast is then laid before me. At times it is like a huge feast. An endless buffet that has so many rich and tasty things, it’s hard to figure out what you want because it’s all so good! Everything is served up to perfection. There is the savory meats, the perfect sides, crisp delicious veggie’s and fruits. Ton’s of milk and drinks, and the sweetest of sweets! So much to taste and choose from, but way to much of one sitting. So I know that I will be coming back to this table again, again and again. It’s Sooooo Good!!!

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;”

And at other times it’s like going on a treasure hunt for this great prize of golpearl of great priced! You know that it’s there waiting for you to find, so we follow the trail, looking for clues along the way… cross reference to here- then over to there… “Look at all this Gold I’m finding! Wow God you are so amazing!!!”  And when you find this “Pearl of Great Value” you want to bury deep and sell all you have to buy the land like Jesus did for you and me. These treasures are so wonderful and amazing and I try to log them down in my journal so that I know where to find and dig them up again so that I can show them to others and share in the greatness of the treasures of God.

Then there are times when I feel like to dog with a bone when it comes to the word of God. I sometimes will take a scripture and chew and chew and chew on it. It may seem to the outsider looking on like I’m just spinning my wheels but there is a deep spiritual growth going on. As I chew upon that word I’m getting stronger and stronger. I’m slowly learning the way it flows as I pour over it time and time again, sharpening my teeth so to speak on it. It has nourishment in it, I just have to work at getting out.

This week has been one of those feasting periods in which I have been just pouring over and over the ‘Sermon on the Mount’ in Matthew chapters 5,6 &7. Oh I’ve read these before, sure, but I felt compelled to dive deeper into the words of Jesus. To dig deeper and deeper as I listen to Jesus and Holy Spirit recite their written words over my life. I want to “Know” to “Yada” as the Hebrew language says, the words of Jesus in ‘This, the greatest Sermon ever spoken‘! To see what treasures lie within those words. To enjoy this great feast He has given us within His Words of Wisdom and Insight from the Holy Father in heaven. And maybe even find a bone or two to chew upon.

I thought I was going to sit down at my computer today and write to you all about what it was that I found in this great feast of His word. But it appears that Holy Spirit had a different idea. God is so good. Holy Spirit I love it when you take over and direct my words. Jesus come, come and direct our lives as we come and feast upon Your Words. Father read to us the love you have for us, and Your desire for our lives, as You wrote them. And Lord I ask that You write them a new on the walls of our hearts.

I thank you Lord God, in Jesus name.

Amen.
