If your sitting at home or where ever, and have access to your bible, I ask that you pick it up and open it. If you have a favorite passage or verse go ahead and go to it. If you don’t, that’s OK, just go to the first one that you feel God shows you to go to. (Note: if your using an e-bible then you will be missing out on the experience to come, so go get a paper bible to enjoy the full experience.)
“Experience” your bible in a conscience way unlike ever before”.
Now look at it as it is written upon the sheet and read it. If its a long passage then just read it quickly and come back here. What did you see? What did you hear the Lord saying to you? What did you feel when you read it? Something? Anything? Nothing?
Now, place your hands on the Scriptures, one on each page. How does it feel under your palms and fingers? Grab a page and just lift it. Rub it between your fingers and thumb. Hear the sound of the paper as it moves between them. How does that sound feel to you? What emotions does it bring?
Lift your bible to your face and take a deep breath. Smell your bible. It’s OK if others see you, just say that your breathing in God and they will leave you alone. Take a deep breath. How does it smell? Does it have any odor at all? Is it fresh? is it musty?
I’m not going to ask you to taste your bible, but if you wish you may. Just don’t eat it.
What I want you to do is “Experience” your bible in a conscience way unlike ever before.
2 Timothy 3:16 says that “All Scripture is is given by inspiration of God”. The NIV says that it is “God-Breathed” as does the YLT. (I like those translations. ‘God-Breathed’ mmmm so good). Your bible is not just a fancy book with special paper that has God’s words on them. Your bible, the one I hope your reading each and every day is God’s presence in your soul.
Psalm 34:8 ‘Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;’ God the Father wants us to do just that! When we ‘Taste and See’ we are giving in to an experience. God wants us to experience Him.
Most of the higher end restaurants live by the understanding that people eat with more than just their mouths. We start to eat with our eyes. We see the beautiful plate of food and our mouths start to water. Then the smell fills our nostrils and our stomachs start to grumble. Then after we have started to eat with our eyes and nose, we pick up the fork or spoon, and then unconsciously we ‘feel‘ the food. Is it crispy, soft, light or heavy? Then we take that first bit and the sensations flow, it’s hot, warm, cold, smooth, crunchy, gritty, sweet, sour, salty, spicy, and so forth. It is more than just a meal. It is an experience.
God’s Word is so much more than just ink on paper. When we sit and quietly read His Word He is there with us. Let your senses go and experience Him as you read and pray.
…”and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Jesus said in Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
God has a very personal side and He desires to be very personable with each and everyone of His children. His desire is for all of His created men and women to come to Him.
Jesus says in Revelation 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me”. This is a most intimate meal. This is communion at its deepest level. Every nerve, every sense experiencing God as He dines with us.
When we, who are privileged enough to have the Word of God laying in our laps, take the time to truly experience personal one on one time with the Ever Living God through His written Word, prayer and just some quiet time of simply sitting and soaking up being in His presence, then we are changed.
Changed forever! Sometimes we might receive a great revelation into a new realm, a new level of understanding of His Word and of His Power. Maybe that understanding is a great breakthrough! A new chapter in our Christian walk. Maybe it’s a deeper understanding of who He is as Father or as Son, or as Holy Spirit. Maybe it is a “WOW – Emmanuel” GOD WITH US!!!!
But for me, and many of us, a lot of the time it is like a warm hug from our Father who loves us enough to want to spend some quiet time with His son/daughter reading His own Words to us. Sometimes it’s just a deeper knowing that I am loved by the God of all creation.
“Jesus is standing at the door of your heart”
God is asking you and I to come into a intimate, personal relationship in which all of our senses are used. Our very core – our souls- cry out to feel – sense – to experience God.
Jesus is standing at the door of your heart, knocking – do you hear it? Open the door and let Him in. Sit with Him. Partake in the joyful meal He has prepared for you. Breathe in the sweet aroma of the ‘Breath of life’. Eat the bread, drink the wine, taste and see that the Lord is good.
Feel Him like never before. Let His great Love pour into the depths of your heart and soul.
And your Father who sees in the secret place ( that personal, intimate quiet place within your heart) will reward you.
I ask that when you pick up your bible, you take a second to revel in the glory of the “God- breathed inspired Word” that your holding. His story. His great Love for you. Let Him read it to you. Open the door of your heart. Invite Jesus in to sit with you. And enjoy with all your senses the presence of God with us as you allow the Father to read His Word to you.
And Experience God.
